What are anti-wrinkle injections?
Here at Natural Face Aesthetics in Malmesbury, Wiltshire we believe in a less is more approach to Botox treatments. Botulinum toxin Type A or Botox as it’s most commonly referred to has been used in medicine for many years. It is a well-researched drug and considered very safe. It has been used in cosmetic treatments for more than 25 years now and it is extremely rare for serious side effects to occur. It works by temporarily weakening the muscles that cause frown lines and wrinkles, resulting in a dramatically smoother, younger looking appearance. Anti-wrinkle injections are not just for line correction they are ideal for line prevention.

Are anti-wrinkle injections safe?
In the right hands, Botox® or anti-wrinkle injections are very safe and effective. One rare side effect of Botox® treatment is a ptosis. This means a drooping or falling of the upper eyelid. Even if this occurs, it can usually be rectified and in cases where it can’t, the duration of effect of the product means that the effect is not permanent and only lasts a few weeks. Occasionally a headache may occur after treatment but this is temporary and rare. As Botox® involves needles there is also a risk of some minor bruising or redness at the injection site.
What’s involved?
Botulinum Type A is a PAO (prescription only medication) so you will need to have a thorough medical consultation and a prescription from a medical professional prior to your first treatment. The actual procedure takes between 10-20 minutes and it’s generally not considered painful as the needles used are very fine.
We DO NOT recommend that you have Botox® if
- You have any muscle weakness disorders, such as myasthenia gravis
- You have a known history of hypersensitivity /allergic reactions to any ingredient in Botox®
- If you are pregnant or breast feeding
FAQs – anti-wrinkle injections
Is there any down time?
You can return to work or normal duties straight away. Some small bumps may be present initially but these subside after 30 minutes or so. There is always a risk of some minor bruising at the site due to the use of a needle. We always recommend planning ahead for anti-wrinkle injection treatments – especially if you have to attend a special event. We recommend treatment at least 4 weeks in advance to allow for any tweaking or top ups.
